Alecia Barry Underhill is a professional artist and illustrator specializing in equine subject matter. Born in Bristol, CT, she is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration, and is an associate member of the American Academy of Equine Art. She works primarily in oils, with occasional forays into other media.
She has been drawing and painting horses for over twenty years, and continually travels to gain new perspectives and new research material. Though horses are her specialty, she also has a fondness for painting cats, dogs, cows and chickens. She has produced the poster, Horses from A to Z and its follow up, Cowman Numerals. She has done illustration workfor the AHSA and Reeves International, maker of Breyer horses.
She has just completed an illustrated horse book for Macmillan Publishers to be released in 2010.She spent her teenage years working with horses at a riding stable in Litchfield, Connecticut, and continues to ride and work with her own Morgan mare, Unique. She and her husband,Michael, live on a farm in Thompson with the horses, two cats, a dog, a flock of chickens, and their son, Max.
