Kennedy A. Marshall
Kennedy Marshall is an Illustrator who specializes in natural science illustrations, and children’s book illustration. Born and raised in Connecticut, she is a graduate of the University of Hartford with a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Art History. She works primarily in watercolor, but also likes to experiment with other media from time to time. In the past few years she has been featured in multiple exhibitions in the Greater Hartford area.
During her explorations abroad, Kennedy found a newfound interest in nature, and especially insects, when she visited the La Specola Museum in Florence, Italy. Since that day she has continued to explore that interest by pushing the ideas of traditional beauty, and challenging viewer’s perceptions of insects by showing them in a new light through her paintings. Her current body of work revolves around the study and documentation of the natural world, with themes focusing on endangered, threatened, and invasive species. Many of her pieces seek to document species that are eye-catching, while also reminding the viewer of the conservational responsibility we all share. She is also in the process of illustrating a self-authored children’s book titled The Adventures of Shelldon the Snail, which seeks to combine the whimsy of childlike wonder and imagination, with the knowledge of environmental responsibility.
