Kids Classes


Weekly Art Classes for Kids

PreK to High School. 6 week sessions are offered on an ongoing basis during the school year. Although flexible, they are designed to be taken continuously to support proper skill building. Fees include all materials. These classes are for kids who are genuinely interested in arts enrichment (not craft).

Children's "Gallery Show":Children’s work will be displayed in the studio lobby, classroom, and upstairs Art Alley with an “opening” party in the studio for the featured artists and family! Date TBD

Mommy/Daddy & Me (Pre-K):

Michael Underhill introduces art through play. This course invites moms (or Dads) to engage in creative play while creating fun little projects that enhance the littlest ones understanding of our visual world. Playing with paint or making a toy, the joy of art, is here to explore. Come prepared to get messy, it aint art if it’s not messy. Instructor: Michael Underhill.


Kindergarten Mixed Media:

An introduction to the joy of creating and exploring multi-media art projects focusing on learning the fundamentals of art and design in a fun environment. Discover a variety of materials and techniques in drawing, painting, sculpting, and design, using free expression to stimulate creativity, build confidence, and skill development. Instructed by Lisa Andrews.


Mixed Media Grades 2-6:

Lisa Andrews will help students further develop personal style and fundamental skills as we explore projects that encourage creativity and individuality. Experiment with a variety of materials and techniques in drawing, painting, sculpting, design, and art history in a variety of mediums.


Weaving & Mixed Fiber Arts Grades 2-6:

Weaver and educator Charlie DeWeese we create several introductory fiber projects including card making, friendship bracelets, treasure pouches that are woven, and felting items throughout this class. This is a beginner’s course that will open the door to many new and wonderful skills.

Cartooning Grades 6-12:
Mondays 5:30-7:00pm
6 week session|$95 per session

Cartooning 1 invites its students to get funny, silly or scary as they get serious about creating their own cartoon characters. It’s a fun way to learn the design process. Creating new cartoon characters, that live in real space and have real emotions is a blast. Cartooning is often the entry point for young creative’s that pursue careers in visual arts. Painting Grades 6-9:
Thursdays 4:00-5:30pm
4 week session|$125 per session

4 week spring session: 4/25 - 5/16

An introduction to acrylic painting with attention to color, composition, and value. Mixing colors and various techniques will be explored while producing landscapes and still lifes. This is for the student who is serious about learning and building a strong foundation of skills. Cost includes a set of acrylic paints and two canvases to paint on. Home School History of Fiber Arts:
Wednesdays 1:00-3:00pm

Image it is the year 1850 and your resources are wood, wool and cotton, and other natural fibers. It’s time to turn those products into paper for drawing and writing, not to mention book making. We will also want to learn to spin and weave items that will help us in our day-to-day lives. Come explore and use your imagination and creativity to make beautiful and useful items throughout our time together Instructor: Charlie DeWeese.









Special Events & Workshops For Kids

Pizza & Picasso Nights:
Food, music and creative fun...ingredients for a fabulous workshop just for kids ages (ages 5-12). Kick off the evening with pizza & interesting facts about a featured artist. Inspired kids will explore materials & interpret the artist’s style in open studio multi-media workstations.

Cost: $25/ per child (ask for sibling discounts) includes pizza, beverage, and all project materials

NEW! Kid's Sun-Printing Workshop: Join us for some creative fun in the sun! Students will make a variety of images using found objects, natural materials, and sunshine! Pre-coated paper will be provided to students along with an array of items to help create their sun-fueled masterpieces.

NEW! Wild About Watercolor (week long workshop Gr. 1-4) Begin the summer with an introduction to the watercolor medium based on techniques/styles of John Pike, Frank Webb, Tony Couch, and Zoltan Szabo. Semi abstract, colorful, creative approach to a challenging medium. Students will leave class with materials needed to continue on their creative journey.

NEW! Cloth, Paper & the Smart Pencil (week long workshop ) We will start out with teh importance and classical reason/tradition for a drwing using a variety of materials with inspiration from master artists. We willl also look at patterns and duplication doing transfers and making collages to make your very own work of art. We will also work in technology and how it can be used to make contemporary art.

Paint the Town - First Friday Mural Project: First Fridays May - October, 5-7pm. Drop-ins welcom. All ages. Children will work on a collaborative mural painting to be hung on the outside of the art center building for the month! Or, we can organize a community art project to be donated to a local business or organization to brighten our area with uplifting artwork! Great for Brownie, Girl Scout, or Cub Scout troops! Call the gallery to organize a private workshop for your special group.
