  • Please register early, as it can determine if a class will run or not.

  • Registration deadline is 1 week prior to start of class to secure your spot and ensure that the class will run.

  • Late registrations will be accepted if class minimum has already been met. If class is filled you will be added to a wait list.

  • There is a 3 person minimum for all classes. If class minimum is not met class will be rescheduled or canceled.

  • Reimbursements for class registrations occur only if class is cancelled. No refunds for registered students who do not attend class.

  • Registrations will not be refunded less than one week prior to start of class or workshop.

  • Payment is due at time of registration.

  • Fees do not include all materials unless otherwise noted

CREATIVE FABRIC DYING

Like to sew or quilt?  Love those batik-like fabrics?  Have fun discovering low immersion dying, vat dying and over-dying to make your own beautiful fabrics to use in your own creative fiber arts adventures.

the zen of machine quilting

Bring your own sewing machine and meditate on the marvels of using the machine as a tool to make art.  Zig zags, curlicues and crosshatching!  Colored, metallic and glossy threads!  In addition to their own sewing machine (must be equipped with a walking foot), students should bring a variety of threads to experiment with.  Students will be supplied with a cotton batt and muslin fabric for their quilt sandwich.  $30 + $10 materials fee.  2 hours

exploring batik

This class is an introduction to the ancient wax resist art of Batik to explore the possibilities of color layering when working with dyes and waxes to produce a variety of images.   Students should come prepared with several drawings.  Please bring a pair of rubber gloves.

FANCY SINGLE Leather WRAP bracelets

This is a ‘graduate level’ workshop for students who have mastered the basic techniques of creating a leather wrap. Play with beads, pattern, and color to create a truly signature style.

Hammered bangle bracelets

Learn how to fabricate perfectly sized bangles in copper and brass. Participants will learn to texture, shape, rivet and patina 3 bangle bracelets. Beginners are most welcome! Purchase sterling silver at an additional cost of $15 per bracelet.

Learn to design and make this beautiful bracelet using Czech glass beads and brass, bronze or silver-plated metal rings. Choose from a vast selection of vintage buttons to create a closure and custom fit. All supplies are included.

cold Enamel Pendants

Create a unique pendant using cold enamel, glitz, glitter and embossing powders on metal. The finished product will be strung on a silk cord.

 


BEaded stackable bangle

Working on a bangle base, students will learn to wire wrap fire-polished Czechglass beads to make multiple decorative elements. Attaching the dangles to the wire base will also be covered. Students will be able to finish two of these elegant bracelets and will have the chance to work in a variety of color combinations. No experience is necessary. $40. Additional kits may be purchased from instructor at the end of class.


Leather-Wrapped Bracelets

Learn to make a leather wrap bracelet perfectly sized to your wrist. Choose your favorite from a hundred different colors of fire-polished Czech glass beads. Additional materials include imported leather cord in a variety of colors, and vintage buttons. This technique is basic and easily mastered. All supplies are included.

memory necklaces

Transform a treasured image into a beautiful and unique piece of wearable art! We will create a locket from an image of your choosing secured in a metal bezel under magnifying glass. Images can include old photographs of people, pets, even vintage labels, interesting ephemera, or a small collage. Leather cord, old stock brass chain, decorative bits and a fancy clasp will complete this piece.

Participants should bring images photocopied onto card stock. Locally, Chase Graphics is a great resource. The image will sit in a 30 mm (I inch+) bezel so have your pieces sized accordingly. Please do not cut images in advance.

MEMORY WIRE Bracelets


Working with memory wire and fine rubber tubing, you will create these handsome bracelets. These pieces are simple to construct and a lovely way to showcase beautiful and unique beads. A colorful variety of vintage, Czech glass and Japanese seed beads will be provided along with all other supplies. Students will be able to create three bracelets.
Additional kits will be available for purchase directly from the artist at the close of this workshop


Zentangle CLASSES

Zentangle is a simple method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. Learn to relax (the Zen part) while creating beautiful, repetitive design work (the tangle part). Students will learn a variety of "tangles" (patterns) and combine them in their own unique way. Easy to learn and a great parent/child activity. No drawing skills required - easy steps guarantee a successful and unique piece. Bring materials if you have them or purchase from instructor prior to class. *save $5 per student* with parent/child registrations. Instructor: Carol Dunn, CZT

 


Zendala Garden 

Working on larger paper, we will create a Zentangle garden within a circular shape. Class fee is $2, which includes the paper and handouts. Bring your Zentangle supplies, or buy a starter kit from instructor in class ($10)


Zendala-Large Black & White


Combine Zentangles with Mandalas to create beautiful art forms! A Mandala (Sanskrit for “circle”) is a radiating geometric pattern symbolizing the universe. We will create a Mandala design and then fill it with tangles to create a “Zendala.” I call this one “Stained Glass.” We will work on a larger piece of beautiful Fabriano Tiepolo paper. Class fee is $2, which includes the large paper and handouts. Instructor will demonstrate a combination of new tangles and tangles students may have learned previously. Starter Zentangle kit $10 payable to instructor, or bring your own supplies.


Zentangle Renaissance

Working with Tan Paper & Brown & White inks. Add a new dimension to your Zentangle art with tan paper, and brown and white inks in addition to the regular black ink. See examples on my website: www.caroldunnart.com. Prior Zentangle experience helpful but not required.

If you already have your Zentangle kit, additional supply fee is $13 (includes brown and white pens, white charcoal pencil, stomp, tan tiles). If you don’t have a kit, total supply fee is $19.75 (includes previous items plus 2 black pens, pencil, stomp, storage bag or box) payable to instructor.

But for Renaissance, we will use tan Renaissance paper, and brown pens, white pens, and white charcoal pencils in addition to the black pens and regular pencils. Supplies can be purchased directly from instructor in class. If you have the basic supply kit, additional materials are $13. If you have no supplies, total kit is $19.75 (includes the starter kit plus the Renaissance items). Large paper or tan round tiles are $1.25.

Zentangle with Color -- PART 2 (Wine'd Down)

Experiment with the instructor’s color materials—markers, watercolor pencils, and more (or bring your own). Learn some tangles, then add some color! Basic kit needed (bring your own or get from instructor-$10). Additional supply fee for this class is $5 (payable to instructor at class time). If you have a previously completed tile you wish to color, bring it to class!

 

Prior Zentangle experience helpful but not required. We will learn a combination of old and new tangles.

 

 

 

 

Gridalicious Zentangle

All the tangles for this class will be based on grids! We will work on larger paper.  Supply fee for this class is $5. Basic kit needed (bring your own or get from instructor-$10).

 

 

 

 

Zentangle with Gems

The newest drawing craze, creating gemstones that look 3D on your paper! We will surround your gems with tangled bezels. Learn how to incorporate smaller gems into your Zentangle creations too. Supply fee for this class is $2, and you’ll be using my colored pencils and blenders (I’ll have some for purchase too). If you already have Prismacolor Premier pencils only, bring them! You will also need your Sakura black pigment pen, or purchase one in class for $3.

Small Zendalas (Wine'Down)

We will trace at least one, and maybe two, mandalas onto Zentangle paper, and we will fill the circular shape with Zentangle designs. Prior Zentangle experience helpful but not required. Zentangle Inspired Art -- So Done with Winter

Zentangle is a method of drawing intricate patterns one step at a time. No drawing abilities needed! In this class I will provide an outline of a scarfed-up woman, and we will fill the sections with tangles. You may work in either the traditional black and white, or with the Renaissance tans and browns. Prior Zentangle experience helpful but not required. We may use a combination of new or previously taught tangles, and instructions for all tangles will be given to you at the end of class.

Large paper is $1.25 payable directly to instructor. Bring your own Zentangle supplies from previous classes, or get just what you need from instructor (starter kit is $10 and includes 2 pens—if you want the additional Renaissance materials, I’ll have those too).

Pastels Workshop

Bring your favorite photograph and create a pastel painting. Learn to create a strong composition as you solve drawing, color, value, perspective, and illumination problems. Learn how to apply and mix pastels on paper. Pastel has become a very popular medium because it combines drawing with the pleasure of pure, vibrant color. If you have ever wanted try this medium, here is your chance! Accomplished pastel artist and Worcester Art Museum instructor will conduct this class. Learn how to apply, mix, and blend pastels as you explore this medium. Bring a photograph as reference and any pastel materials you may have.


Animal portrait Workshop

From portraits of pets to wildlife paintings, learn techniques to help you create lifelike and expressive images of animals that go beyond traditional animal portraits. This course will cover some basics of animal anatomy, and techniques for sketching animals from life, using background elements, light and color. Learn tips on photographing pets and livestock, choosing and working with reference photos, and composing a finished painting or drawing. This class is for students who already have basic drawing or painting skills. Projects will be tailored to the individual. Students should bring materials listed to class, as well as an assortment of reference photos of a family pet, livestock or wild animals.

Wire-Wrapped Rings and Bracelets

Learn how to make beautiful tarnish-free wire wrapped rings cocktail rings and bracelets with a gorgeous array of focal beads and wire colors to choose from. Make some for yourself and as gifts for others. Participants can create either 3 rings or 1 ring and a bracelet.

Intro to watercolor Painting Workshop

Begin your painting journey with this workshop - learn the basic steps needed to produce a watercolor painting. The first hour will be used to experiment with watercolor washes, color blending, and paint application. Watercolors is a fast media which lends itself to outdoor painting, limited time, and small spaces. If you would like to learn to paint, but are unsure how to begin, this is the workshop for you.

All skill levels are appropriate. The perfect way to sample the 6-week class in watercolors.
